I started the new year with a road trip from Miami, FL to New Orleans, LA. It was a rough 13 hour drive although, I did most of the sleeping and snoring in the back seat. We had heard different stories about the city some good, some not so great but like good travelers we wanted to experience it for ourselves.
One thing is certain the best reason to visit New Orleans is for the food! So much SEAFOOD! Ugh deliciousness everywhere we went. They have the most delicious food, we barely drank we just wanted food. So we ate as much as we could and we tried different places each day although we had a favorite meal we had to have daily.
The city is not the most beautiful nor the most clean, but boy do they know their seasoning, geez!
Here is a list of our top places to visit and what to order:
The Old Coffee Pot –
A delicious breakfast place with an amicable waiter from here we ordered Buttermilk Fried Chicken and warm biscuit with a delicious creamy sausage gravy, it was to die for! So much flavor in each bite. We also shared a Seafood Gumbo, the gumbo is a must in New Orleans so much seafood goodness.
Nola PoBoys –
Is a MUST! They have a 12″ grilled shrimp poboys (that’s what they are called) that is so amazing we had to have it every single day no matter what. We had it the first night we arrived and we had to go back each day. They also have it instead of shrimp with catfish or crawfish. Beware if you order it fried it will be super spicy! Make sure to ask for the romulo sauce it is made in house and it’s a great addition to your poboy.
J’s Seafood Dock –
Now say it with me. Oysters, oysters, oysters!! We love oysters and we saw all kinds of oyster bars around New Orleans so we had to try them every single day. The best oysters we had were from the French Market. They were fresh from the day and opened right in front of you. So next time you are there go to J’s Seafood Dock in the historic French Market.
Cafe du Monde –
Beignets are a thing in New Orleans. At first I was skeptical with all the excess powered sugar, even though I have a sweet tooth an all, but these sweets are a must to try when they are warm with a cafe au lait (the french way of saying coffee and milk). This place is the most popular so there is always a line no matter the time that you go.
Now jazz is huge in New Orleans, obviously, so some cool places that we got to experience some good jazz was The Spotted Cat and Bamboula’s right on Frenchmen Quarter. One thing to beware of in New Orleans if you have a car, is to pay close attention where you park. We had a small panic attack when our car was towed since we were parked within 20 feet of a stop sign.
AWESOME !! Definitely the food and jazz was great❤️
I haven’t been to N. Orleans in so long but remember the food being AMAZING!!!
Excellent recommendations !
