I finally managed to settled a bit in Madrid, which is why I hadn’t updated on my progress earlier. I have been here for 17 days. I am currently staying with an aunt until I can find my own place or a piso to share. I already started working at an elementary school. The school has a great atmosphere. The children are wonderful and very excited to learn from me. They are fascinated that I am from Miami, Fl.
It is a small school which is nice because you can feel the support that everyone has for each other. All the school administrators are also teachers including the principal which I think its very interesting. I feel very lucky to have been placed in this school with such wonderful people. I work with two other assistants. They are very easy going and very friendly.
I have to admit I have been more homesick than I thought I would be.
I spoke to my dad a few days ago and I found myself holding back tears just by listening to his voice. I try to stay in contact with my family as much as possible because I don’t want to miss out on anything that’s going on with them.
I was thinking about going home for Christmas but tickets are really expensive for the holidays, so we’ll see what happens.
I haven’t really gone out to explore around Madrid. Granted, I have been here before but I would cherish the opportunity to see it from a more local perspective. I finally got my abono which is a transportation card, that gives me access to all areas in Madrid for only 20€ a month. I intend to take advantage of it ASAP!
I have a long weekend so I will be in Dénia till Monday! I am very excited because it gets me out of the routine. I am hoping to get my official schedule for work on Tuesday so I can start planning my days out and possibly coming up with a bucket list of things to do for my time here in Spain.
Any bucket list ideas?
